In the event of a disaster to a database (such as an operating system or disk failure), the recovery log program will restore the database from a backup copy and use the recovery log to re-run the commands entered since the last backup. By backing up files regularly and using the recovery log, a database can always be brought back to the state it was in immediately before it was corrupted.
