Empress RDBMS Version 8.62 is now available on Windows XP Embedded. If your product development road map includes Windows XP Embedded operating system as a target platform, be sure to include your Empress database in those plans.
The primary reason for choosing XP Embedded over Windows XP is the need to reduce the expanse required by the operating system. The ultimate footprint of Windows XP Embedded depends on the hardware configuration of the target device.
XP Embedded offers three baseline configurations: Kernel, Minlogon, and Winlogon. Kernel is the smallest of the three formations and Winlogon is the largest. Empress RDBMS Version 8.62 was tested with the Minlogon baseline configuration, with CMD as the only option added to Minlogon. CMD provides for a DOS Window which is needed to take advantage of Empress Interactive SQL.
Empress RDBMS Version 8.62 "off-the-shelf" test configuration included:
- EMPRESS RDBMS database engine
- MR Routines
- Embedded SQL (Static and Dynamic)
- Interactive SQL
The footprint of this Empress RDBMS deployment is 2.08 MB. It is possible to further reduce the footprint size in a custom installation.
