Empress 64-bit RDBMS Reaches New Heights With Silicon Graphics® IRIX® Operating System

Greenbelt, MD -- Empress announces the availability of Empress RDBMS V6.10 on Silicon Graphics 64-bit version of its IRIX operating system software. Empress RDBMS and Silicon Graphics IRIX software together break the limitations of conventional 32-bit operating systems by allowing you to address huge amounts of memory, use bigger files and execute complex database visualizations faster.

The ability to address large amounts of memory provided by IRIX software takes the performance of an Empress database to a higher level. You can now cache larger portions of an Empress database directly into memory via Empress's shared memory feature. This feature translates into much faster data access times since memory access is quicker than disk access.

File size capabilities for Empress running on 64-bit IRIX far exceed the 2 GB limit of a 32-bit operating system. You can now handle much larger files. For example, hundreds of DVD videos can be stored. Moreover, this capability, combined with Empress's ability to store and retrieve a variety of complex data types, makes Empress ideal for any application that requires the quick handling of a vast variety of multimedia. In addition, the maximum number of records per Empress database table and the maximum size of each record significantly increases using Empress on the Silicon Graphics 64-bit platform.
