Empress Internet Toolkit Delivers New Features Including Perl and Tcl/Tk

Empress Hypermedia V3: Nested SQL, Easy DB Connections, New APIs

Greenbelt, MD -- Empress announces the availability of Empress Hypermedia V3, an Internet applications development toolkit for the Empress RDBMS user. New features take advantage of the latest advances in Internet technologies. Additionally, Empress Hypermedia V3 includes enhanced Perl and Tcl/Tk interfaces for connecting these popular scripting languages to Empress RDBMS.

Included among the new features of Empress Hypermedia V3 are the following: the ability to directly embed SQL statements within other SQL statements in an HTML template; a quick method to check input strings of data in order to ensure the correctness of the strings' components; and an easy way to connect to the database by simply specifying connection information in the HTML tag. In addition, error log files generated by the toolkit can now be kept separate from the HTTP system, giving you a clean method of managing this information. The new installation scripts, which help configure copies of Empress Hypermedia in various Web documents, now make it easy to ensure security. You have total control over who can access, view or modify any data within the system.

Empress Hypermedia V3 also contains enhanced script language interfaces (APIs) for Perl and Tcl/Tk. The Perl interface allows you to embed Perl scripts directly into HTML files. The Perl and Tcl/Tk Interfaces provide for full client-server network architecture via the Empress ODBC Interface. Data can be quickly viewed or changed, no matter where on the network the database resides. Both enhanced APIs also allow for connection to multiple databases at one time. In addition, they provide increased efficiency with the ability to reuse SQL statements. Furthermore, the APIs have improved binary data handling features. The use of an unlimited number of cursors is also now possible. Even for programs that run for long periods, this feature provides a thorough tracking method for all records retrieved.
